Kathryn M. Vorwald, DDS, MD
Dr. Vorwald spent many frigid Winters growing up in the Midwest and attended the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry to obtain her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, graduating with Distinction and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. She then elected to continue specialty training to become an oral & maxillofacial surgeon after being accepted as the first female surgeon in the St. John-Providence Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency (now, Ascension Health).
She is a highly-trained yet down-to-earth Board-certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon who enjoys creating an inviting and openly interactive experience for all patients.
She spent 6 years in the busy metropolis of Detroit, Michigan, managing and treating a comprehensive range of patients from wisdom tooth extractions and dental implants to complex facial trauma to cosmetic facial and orthognathic jaw surgeries to advanced tumors of the jaws and face. During her time in Detroit, she also attended Wayne State University School of Medicine and obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, graduating with Distinction as well as being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She also completed dedicated hospital- and clinic-based Anesthesia training as well as her internship in General Surgery at St. John/Providence Hospitals.
Dr. Vorwald then sought subspecialty training in the treatment and management of cancer patients (as well as warmer weather), so she accepted a position in the American Head & Neck Society’s Oncologic & Microvascular Surgical Fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. There, she expanded upon her surgical skills and experience, treating advanced cancers of all the head and neck subsites, including oral cavity, jaw, throat, voice box, skin, thyroid, and salivary gland tumors. She also trained to become proficient in complex microvascular reconstructive techniques, allowing her to transplant tissues from the arms and legs to help reconstruct the face and jaws following cancer removal. Following completion of her fellowship training, she was invited to stay as a member/Faculty in the Head & Neck/Endocrine Oncology Department and was involved in the ENT training program of the University of South Florida. After spending 5 years providing intensive surgical services for many cancer patients, she decided to return to her dental roots of oral surgery.
Dr. Vorwald is regularly involved in continuing education and stays abreast of the latest clinical updates and research to help make informative decisions with her patients. She prides herself on always trying to be transparent and involving her patients in making educated decisions regarding their own care and providing easy-to-understand explanations. Over on the Gulf Coast, Dr. Vorwald has been named one of Tampa Magazine’s Tampa Bay Top Doctors for three consecutive years: 2022, 2023, & 2024.
She and her family are excited to settle in and create their forever home on the Treasure Coast. She hopes to have the privilege and opportunity to treat her colleagues, community, and patients in the same caring and trustworthy manner on the Treasure Coast to gain their trust and support for years to come!!
